Chronosphere acts much like an extra life. When Chronosphere becomes active, it displays a dotted purple ring around your ship like so:

Once Chronosphere has been used, it won't regenerate, and the icon will appear disabled. However, if you are playing Endless, you can end the game, then continue where you left off, at which point the feature is re-enabled.
